AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION HEARTSAVER CPR/AED and FIRST AID FOR ALL AGES COURSE

This course is for community organizations and faith-based organizations who want to have staff and members trained in CPR/AED and First Aid skills.  These trained individuals can then help during cardiac, and various medical and traumatic emergencies.  This training will also meet any applicable statutes or regulations related to responding to cardiac and various medical and traumatic emergencies.

Course content summary:

  • Describe the priorities, roles and responsibilities of a rescuer providing first aid or CPR/Defibrillation via an AED, to a child, infant or adult.
  • Describe the four key steps in first aid for children and infants: prevent, protect, assess, and act.
  • Describe and practice the use of personal protective equipment, gloves, gowns, eye protection.
  • Describe and practice scene safety techniques.
  • Describe and practice the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, low blood sugar, allergic reaction, heart attack, stroke and seizures.
  • Describe and practice controlling bleeding and bandaging.
  • Describe and practice use of an epinephrine pen.
  • Describe and recognize elements of common injuries and illnesses.
  • Describe and recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid/CPR/AED rescuers.
  • Describe how high-quality CPR and early defibrillation improves survival.
  • Describe the concepts of the Chain of Survival.
  • Describe and practice how to recognize when someone needs CPR and Defibrillation.  Describe and practice how to perform high-quality CPR for an infant, child or adult.
  • Describe and practice how to give effective breaths by using the mouth-to-mouth technique or a CPR mask for all age groups.
  • Describe and practice how to use an AED on a child, infant or adult.
  • Describe and practice when and how to help a choking infant, child or adult.

Renewal course:  For those who have taken this course before and who’s cards are not expired.

Length of course:  6 hours.

Credentialed course:  Students who complete this course will receive an American Heart Association card of completion.  This card is used by students for applicable professional boards, associations, regulatory bodies and employers to prove the student has successfully completed this course.

  • Onsite Group rates for organizations and businesses needing to train 8 students or less: minimum flat rate $752.00.
  • Onsite Group rates for organizations and businesses needing to train 9-20 students: $94.00 per student.
  • Onsite Group rates for organizations and businesses needing to train 21 or more students: $91.00 per student.
  • Non-Group rate for individuals joining a scheduled class: $94.00.

Initial course:  For those who have never taken this course or who’s card has expired.

Length of course:  8 hours.
